Lapaba sounds like a word from the Minion language, but it's actually a portmanteau for La Pasta Bar. This upscale Koreatown restaurant is run by a husband-and-wife team who cooked previously at Osteria Mozza, with an assist from Nancy Silverton. Most of the pastas here have interesting Korean twists, like cacio e pepe made with tteok, bucatini tossed in a jjajang-style amatriciana, and corn cheese agnolotti.

Sawtelle is adding another Japanese restaurant to its robust lineup and this one is deep-fried. Ten No Meshi is a katsu spot from Kyoto that just opened its first location outside of Japan yesterday. Their signature dish is A5 wagyu katsu served pink in the center and finished on a sizzling hot stone at your table. They're also doing pork katsu, scallop cutlets, and donburi bowls topped with fried eggs and salmon roe.

The Melt is bringing its grilled cheese happiness to the South Bay. The Bay Area-born fast-casual chain is planning a new location at Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance near Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ. Since launching in 2011, the chain has expanded to 11 Northern California locations, six Southern California spots, and two in Arizona with plans for additional locations in Long Beach and Hollywood Park. The menu features MeltBurgers made with Angus and Wagyu beef, crispy chicken sandwiches, and real ice cream shakes.

Bob Baker Marionette Theater Kicks Off Milestone Year
The historic Bob Baker Marionette Theater is celebrating a massive comeback year after community support helped save the venue from closure. The 63-year-old institution is set to perform at Coachella this April and will premiere "Choo Choo Revue" in May which marks its first fully original show in over 40 years. The festivities kicked off last weekend with "Hooray LA!" featuring new puppets like a Grizzly Bear named Huunot and a rainbow trout named Wiggles.

Surf City Half Marathon + 5K This Weekend
Surf City Marathon weekend takes over Huntington Beach tomorrow with one of the country's most scenic Boston-Qualifying courses along the Pacific Coast Highway. The half marathon kicks off at 7:15am followed by the 5K at 11:00am with runners passing the iconic Huntington Beach Pier. The full marathon is sold out but registration is still open for the half ($202) and 5K ($78). Packet pickup runs today from 12-6pm and tomorrow from 10am-4pm at 21291 Pacific Coast Highway.

Plans are on file for an eight-story, 281-unit residential building proposed at 155 West 6th Street and 625 South Beacon Street in San Pedro as part of the broader City Place redevelopment area. The project will feature studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments arranged above a ground-level base containing parking and 1,276 square feet of commercial space. Internal courtyards bring light and air into the center of the building while reducing the perceived scale. The development is led by High Street Residential in partnership with Haseko North America, with Westport Construction as general contractor.

Anduril Industries is establishing a second major Southern California campus spanning Long Beach and Lakewood to support growing demand from the U.S. military and allied partners. The 1.18 million square foot campus will feature six buildings combining 750,000 square feet of office space with 435,000 square feet of industrial R&D space, supporting approximately 5,500 direct jobs when it opens in mid-2027. Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson called the investment "a major vote of confidence in Long Beach and California's leadership in advanced manufacturing and aerospace." The company's headquarters will remain in Costa Mesa, with the new campus located 30 minutes away for rapid design, testing, and iteration.
