VENICE 🇯🇵 RVR

RVR just touched down on Abbot Kinney, where one of our Curators, Travis Lett, channels a Japanese izakaya through Venice ease with hand rolls, binchōtan-grilled skewers, and ramen with house-made noodles in a moody, vinyl-soaked room. Executive chef Ian Robinson and wine director Maggie Glasheen keep the pace tight, with plates like roasted mushrooms in miso butter and pork belly gyoza that hit right away. It’s busy and late, so snag a Resy or slide in after 8:30pm for bar seats. Bring a light jacket for the ocean chill and plan a weeknight to skip the weekend crush.
LARCHMONT 🍳 MAX & HELEN'S

Max & Helen’s hits Larchmont later this month, bringing Phil Rosenthal and Nancy Silverton’s spin on classic diner fare to the old Le Petit Greek spot. Inspired by Maine’s iconic Palace Diner and named for Rosenthal’s late parents, the place aims to channel a cozy, 100-year-old eatery, right down to the antique fixtures and thick, fork-worthy milkshakes. The menu’s shaping up with everything from homey breakfasts and patty melts to matzo ball soup and fresh pies. Locals can expect a lively community hangout designed with comfort.
SANTA MONICA ☕ MONICA CAFÉ

Santa Monica just got a new daytime hangout with Monica Café, courtesy of the team behind Lokl Haus. Swing by for Turkish-style breakfasts—think spinach borek, Turkish eggs, and pressed sandwiches—plus flaky pastries and solid coffee in a relaxed, sunlit spot. The menu stays true to their Mid-City roots, but it feels right at home steps from the beach.

FORECAST 🧣 COOLER TRENDS
| Day | Vibes | Hi/Lo | Rise | Set |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wed | ☀️ Sunny | 67 / 55 | 6:59 AM | 6:20 PM |
| Thu | ☀️ Sunny | 73 / 51 | 7:00 AM | 6:19 PM |
| Fri | ☀️ Sunny | 77 / 52 | 7:01 AM | 6:18 PM |
Cool and sunny today after the storm, with highs still running 5–15 degrees below normal and some breezes in the I-5 corridor and into the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys later on. A light Santa Ana sets up Thursday + Friday with warmer temps, mid 70s to low 80s in the valleys, and locally gusty NE winds that should stay near or below advisory levels. Marine areas see Small Craft Advisory-level NW winds through at least late tomorrow night, with 6–9ft seas holding into the weekend. A brief warmup Saturday looks near normal before onshore flow rebuilds Sunday + Monday, bringing back some coastal clouds and a cooler trend.
METRO 🚇 ROAD TOLLS?
Metro could be looking at tolls in the busiest spots like DTLA and the Westside to cut traffic and clean up the air, with a pilot possibly lining up with the 2028 Olympics. The plan would charge drivers during peak hours inside set zones, then reinvest billions into faster buses, rail, and new express routes, plus discounts and a mobility wallet to help low-income riders.

STUDIO CITY 🎳 MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT

Plans are in for 814 new apartments and 76,000 square feet of retail, plus perks like a pool, bowling alley, and more are planned at 12555 Ventura Blvd, right next to the LA River. If approved, Riverwalk Studio City would bring a mix of two- to seven-story buildings, a central pedestrian path connecting Ventura to the river, and a public plaza at Ventura and Whitsett. Forty-six units would be set aside as affordable housing for very low-income residents. It’s one of several big projects along this stretch, so expect the area to keep evolving.
SKID ROW 🌴 $2BN COMPLEX

LA’s Planning Commission just backed Fourth & Central, a $2bn, 7.6-acre mixed-use plan at 4th & Central on the Skid Row, Arts District edge. The project calls for 1,589 apartments, roughly 401k sq. ft. of creative offices, and 146k sq. ft. of retail + eats across ten buildings. Two acres of public open space is also planned, with the tallest tower capped at thirty stories.

Mattel and Roblox are teaming up on a slate of new games, starting with a Monster High experience landing October 24th. Players can customize 'Creepanions,' brew in Frankie Stein’s Alchemy Lab, and join Clawdeen Wolf’s pack to charge the Ghoulstone—plus expect Barbie, Hot Wheels, Masters of the Universe, and UNO to follow as standalone titles. Mattel says its Barbie DreamHouse Tycoon hit close to 500 million visits, so there’s already an audience for this. Also new: Polly Pocket and Street Sharks are live in Roblox’s License Manager, with Matchbox and Rock ’Em Sock ’Em Robots coming soon 💌

TRAILER DROP 🎞️ THE FAMILY PLAN 2
Apple TV set a holiday-friendly drop for The Family Plan 2, with Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan back on November 21st. The new trailer teases a Europe-set chase where a ghost from Dan’s past (Kit Harington) crashes the family vacation. It’s directed by Simon Cellan Jones from a script by David Coggeshall, with Zoe Colletti and Van Crosby returning.
FILMLA 📝 Q3 REPORT
FilmLA just released its Q3 report, showing film shoots in LA dipped 13% this summer versus last year, but there’s a bright spot: feature films actually rose nearly 10%, even as TV shoots dropped, mostly from less reality and game show work. Local regulars like 'Dancing with the Stars' and 'Criminal Minds' were still rolling. Industry leaders hope the latest state film tax credits will bring more productions back to LA, though it might take a while to see big changes.
NETFLIX 🎧 PODCASTS
Netflix is finally diving into video podcasts through a new deal with Spotify, bringing shows from Spotify Studios and Bill Simmons’ The Ringer onto the streamer. The Bill Simmons Podcast and The Rewatchables for sports, plus culture picks like The Dave Chang Show and Dissect, with a U.S. rollout slated for early 2026 and more shows to follow. The move chases cheap-to-license hours and puts pressure on YouTube, where most podcast viewers already watch. Concrete takeaway: expect a podcasts row in the Netflix app next year, starting stateside, with more studios added over time.
JENNIFER FOX 🦊 GOVERNORS AWARDS
Jennifer Fox is back to produce the 16th Governors Awards at the Ray Dolby Ballroom on Sunday, November 16th, marking her seventh time leading the show, per Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor’s announcement in L.A.. This year’s honorees include Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise, and Wynn Thomas receiving Honorary Oscars, with Dolly Parton set for the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. It also kicks off the Academy’s 98th Oscars season, with Fox calling the night a joyous chance to celebrate these careers.. If you’re planning ahead, Ovation Hollywood will be the spot for a starry, insider-focused ceremony that’s become a staple on the fall awards calendar 💌
MORE NETFLIX 🍿 PRISM
Millie Bobby Brown and Rachel Brosnahan are teaming up with the Russo brothers’ AGBO for a supernatural Netflix series called Prism. Brown stars as Cassie, a woman who can communicate with ghosts and must uncover the cause of a global visitor phenomenon before it’s too late. The show comes from Etan Frankel of Shameless fame, with Assemble Media producing. If it goes forward, Prism marks another big step in Brown’s long run with Netflix, just as Stranger Things wraps up this winter.

DODGERS 🧢 GAME 3
Dodgers come home up 2–0, with Tyler Glasnow set for Game 3 at Dodger Stadium tomorrow night and Shohei Ohtani lined up for Game 4 on Friday. After Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s nine-inning gem put LA in control, the matchup swings to a prime-time first pitch with the Brewers’ starter still TBD and LA’s rotation rolling. One concrete thing to know: teams that go up 2–0 in a best-of-seven after winning both on the road have taken the series nearly 89% of the time. If the bats wake up behind that pitching, the pressure shifts fast to Milwaukee.
RAMS 🐏 PLAYING IN LONDON
The Rams are packing their bags for London, set to face the Jaguars at Wembley this Sunday in front of nearly 90,000 fans. Both teams come in hot at 4–2, with Matthew Stafford leading a sharp Rams offense and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence finding his rhythm under new head coach Liam Coen. Kickoff is early for LA fans at 6:30am.
CHARGERS ⚡ VS COLTS
The Chargers host the Colts at SoFi on Sunday and LA’s coming off a last-second win thanks to Cameron Dicker’s fifth field goal of the day. Justin Herbert’s got his full crew lining up, while Indianapolis brings the league’s top-scoring offense at 32.3 points per game. Keep an eye on rookie back Kimani Vidal after his Week 6 breakout and watch whether Khalil Mack suits up off IR. If the Chargers keep Jonathan Taylor in check, they’ve got a real shot to flip the script on a 5-1 Colts team.
